Kuryakyn Grips Vs eBay (similar) Grips

So I'm in the market for Grips.

As I'm doing my research, I find that there's quite a few sellers on eBay that are selling grips that resemble the Kuryakyn. As I don't have any experience with this, I'd like to know if any of you have purchased/installed either one of these grips and what are your thoughts?

I saw that the Accutronix Grips need slight custom modifications which I don't have the tools for, etc. I am looking for a good price and easy installation without sacrificing quality. I really like the Kuryakyn Grips but I don't wanna spend $80 on the Kuryakyn Grips when I can spend $30 instead and get similar, if not the same exact grips.

So I guess my bottom line question is, did any of you purchase the "Kuryakyn" imitation from eBay and is it a good product compared to the real Kuryakyn grips?

Thanks in advance!

I bought my Kury knock offs from Amazon, think they were like $35 five years ago and mine are still in great shape, you can see a little wear on the rubber but nothing that would stick out when checking the bike out. I say get them and try them out, if they don't work then you are only out a few dollars.

Very true X, however you purchased some good knock offs. That's the problem buying knock offs, you pay a bit more through amazon and you'll get a better quality part (and that's a good move) but you get one on ebay that ships straight out of China and it's anyone's guess what you actually get shipped. I hear from my daughter that nearly 100% of the sellers in China put up a photo of the real product in their ebay listing so it looks like a good deal but they ship out junk that does not even look like the photo. (Yes she was pissed that a pair of shoes were nothing like the photo, just as well paypal did the refund.)

yo badboy ,was at a fury meeting last month and 1 rider spoke on this very subject and said that his m8 used the cheaper version and when out riding few days after fitting, the grips where slipping on the handle bars, as they were out on a long run, they bought insulation ape and glue to do a running repair.
he said that the cheaper set where slightly bigger and they wrapped the handle bars with insulation tape to FATTEN the handle bars and kept adding tape until the grip was almost to tight to fit then lined the inside of grips with the adhesive then refitted grips. maybe some members have had better luck ??

There is a reason the cheap knock offs are cheap and that's because they are nowhere near the same quality as the real part.

You can get some reasonable grips from emgo at a fair price, do a google search for emgo buffalo grips. I used them on another bike I had and they were fine.

Here you go $25.91 from amazon with free shipping:

I bought a set of the Amazon "knockoff" ISOs a few years ago, they were sloppier, of lower quality (not as heavy, not as good of rubber) but other than that they worked just the same IMO.

Out of curiosity, why are you going the Ebay route when Amazon has them on their site cheaper?

The problem with any outsourced knockoff like this is you can't guarantee the quality you'll get, the set I had never required any extra work, plenty of other people's have. I rode them for about a year in Cali weather (all year long) and never had an issue.

Suppliers though will keep pushing the knockoffs no matter the quality, so (especially with Ebay) you're buying and hoping the set you get is a good set.

I have been thinking about picking up another pair since the set I had was vastly superior to stock grips, but I also know the Kury's are heavier and feel better, and I'd want them eventually. Since the Fury isn't going anywhere any time soon, I think I'll wait and shell out the extra $40 on 'em. I've got all winter...

I agree 100%. You pretty much said the same as I did.

As for the knock offs it's worth repeating this again. The latest trend for items sold on ebay that come from China and possibly other parts of Asia is for the sellers to use photos of the genuine item in their listings. So people buy the item thinking it is the same or close enough. When the items turn up and you open the box, you can see straight away why you paid $25 including shipping.

As for the Kury grips, Arlen Ness sell (or they did last time I was at the store in CA) the identical grips under another brand for about $40 or $49. I can't remember the exact price now but they were at least $20 less than the Kury part for the same level of quality.

I had the Kuryakyn grips for a while, but to me the issue is that almost everyone I know have them, 75% of bikes I seen (including Harleys) have Kuryakyn grips.

I never had Kuryakyn knockouts, but after modifying the throttle housing with the dremel (just dremel out a little to make larger opening), I was able to use billet grips made for Harley. They are cheap and there are 100s of styles available online for $15~$35

I bought these and installed them in less than a half hour. We'll see how they hold up long term but out of the box the quality seems excellent.

Oh man! Thanks for your comment! Was hoping someone would comment with actual experience with those grips from "eBay".

Questions:
1. Did you buy this one recently? If so, can you give me the link to this eBay product?
2. Did you have to replace the inside "throttle" plastic tube that connects to the throttle wires? Or did you only have to install the grips on top of the OEM inside throttle plastic tube?
3. How is the fit? Does it fit perfectly without being loose in any type of way?

Thanks again!

I assume you've purchased all three sets through ebay for about $25 a piece right?

Questions:
1. How long ago was your most recent purchase?
2. Did you have to replace the inside plastic throttle tube that connects to the throttle wires or did you only replace the grip and kept the OEM throttle tube?

Avon make a range of nice grips. Here is one I like and the full retail price in the USA is only $59.

Here is link to the Avon site, you will see they have a ton of styles and at reasonable prices.

Those look nice! Do you have experience with them though? As far as the product's quality and installation? I don't want to go through a hassle with the installation, you know what I mean..

Here you go Bad Boy

http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=310826385722&globalID=EBAY-US

I've had them on for a week so far. Clutch side fit like a glove-no modifying. Throttle side I cheated some. The throttle side comes with a throttle tube but it seemed a lot of people complained on how hard it is to connect the cables and I didn't want to deal with that. I left the stock throttle tube on the bike and only removed the stock grip. Then removed the eBay grip from the throttle tube it came with. When I put the eBay grip on it was very loose. I wrapped some tape around the stock tube until the eBay grip fit snug. Glued it and no problems so far.
