"Holy Grail" ECU Reflash (condensed thread) [flash engine power upgrade]

Almost on the team..

So i just sold my Fi2000r, yay, and ship it tomorrow. I plan to remove my ECU and send it out to Don tomorrow as well provided I don't get sidetracked with any obstacles like work lol.. anyway, my plan is to go 2-2 exhaust, 750 idle, 6100 max rpm, and 205 degree fan on at 205/off at 201.. this is all based on the thread advice and others' posts over the past few years.

My questions for those that have done this, and granddaddy if you see this first:

1. Shipping the ECU. i had read someone whose ECU was lost in the mail :( so was going to add insurance and planned to ship USPS priority mail. What amount would be reasonable to insure that would cover the cost of a replacement ECU if its lost in the mail.. and is USPS the best carrier to go with with cost in mind?
2. I will enclose the ECU in a padded envelope inside of a ziplock bag. I assume you guys simply include a note inside the envelope with return address, contact info, and the settings you want on the ECU right? or should i call Don to coordinate the shipment so he knows its coming and give him instructions of what i want... (had read email doesnt work)
3. Are the settings i plan to go with still considered optimal or have they changed at all based on consensus /experience? My setup is Cobra swepts and spike intake.

4. Forgot to include this question in the original post: are you guys paying Don via CC over the phone or including a check for $375 in the package?

Thanks guys, and i look forward to some extra good times once this is done..

Thank you.. I will plan to ship the ecu next weekend to coincide with me being out of state, so no downtime and no extra rush needed assuming his turnaround time is as advertised :)
I added an extra question with regard to payment but I'll probably call him during the week to arrange payment, assuming he takes credit card.
With regard to the idle I think I'll play it somewhat safe at 750 or possibly 800, have to think about it some more..

Thanks guys, appreciate the info.. i plan to do the IAC valve clean and reset procedure this week as the bike did a high-idle on my once, figure, ill get this out of the way should it try to rear its ugly head after i install the flashed ecu.

So scratch my plans to clean/reset the IAC valve for now as I dont have the torx bit with a hole in the center lol... I'll attack that job should it be required..

Now decisions, decisions.. 700 or 750 idle.. i read in one of the posts that Don is now recommending 750 idle.. i'll have to ask him more on this when we talk.

I did see one of the videos with 660 idle and that sounded awesome, but my luck id be stalling out all the time lol..

Ken.. what was your idle measured at when you did that low-idle switch, that sounded pretty nice :)

We're gonna have to talk to Don about including the Fury on his website under Honda ECU Reflash section.. currently only these bikes are listed :(

CBR600RR
CBR1000RR
CB1000R
CB1100
VFR1200
GL1800 Goldwing, F6B, Valkyrie
CRF

So i had a great experience with sending my ECU out and getting it back well in advance of returning from my business trip last nite. I sent it USPS Priority 2-3 day with $350 insurance and saw that it was delivered at front porch/entrance of Guhl Motors on Monday morning.. i was tied up all day Monday and didnt hear from them and i'll admit I was a bit worried of it not being received or being left at the wrong porch, etc.. but i called first thing Tues morning and got Rob on the phone who found that it was received and bumped it up for processing and said it should go out Tuesday which it did and wife got it on Wednesday...

Today i was able to install and do the relearn procedure and then take her for a ride.. here is my feedback:

Previous to the tune I had the Cobra FI2000r set on 2-3-4. This was no slouch and actually felt as a good improvement over stock. Now with the tune there are a few things that of course stand out and make it the wiser choice:
1. I don't have to worry about it being set optimally for fuel/air mixture as i did with the tri-pot
2. The power as others have noted from mid-full throttle is definitely better and where it really shine ofcourse if where the FI2000r was governed at the 5k mark, now she can just keep on pulling to 6100 and I find I hit 60+ faster than before. I did a non-scientific roll from 5-60mph and clocked around 4ish seconds which is definitely fast enough for this type of bike
3. The idle! I'm loving the new sound of 750 rpm, its so sweet! and as Don suggested this is probably the best middle-ground between excellent sound and least chance for stalling: https://youtu.be/HMepuE-GSYg
4. No more 100 mph limiter - although this is nice extra, i doubt i'll ever test it out, we'll see
5. Fan coming on earlier - very good for oil/engine longevity especially with the higher revving you'll be doing

Overall i am very pleased and it was worth the extra $250 including the money made off of the FI2000r sale. I would say if you have a stock bike and then do the standard pipes and intake and then are in the market for fuel control options, if you have the money, go right to the flash instead of any interim step like I did.. although i do enjoy incremental mods over time, I would have saved $50 in the long run just jumping right to the flash plus having the immediate benefits. Whatever you do, don't stick with stock, she is so neutered in stock form and it was a real bummer riding her for a few days with no FC after i sold the FI2000r and before the tune.

Thanks Ken and all who provided feedback and assistance :)
