I have found an engine upgrade kit to the Fury motor. How much would you feel 20 more HP???

Rtrombone68, How much would you feel 20 LESS HP going to the rear wheels?
Accutronix, you must have misunderstood what i was asking.

MY question, having dealt with cars more than bikes, was that when you add 20 hp to a bike will you really feel a difference. When I used to work on my mustang i would mod it and gain 10 - 15 hp - not 10 - 15hp to the rear wheels. Everyone knows when you have 20 hp total only get maybe 15 - 10 hp to the rear wheels in a car. So my question was would i feel a tremendous difference based upon that way of thinking (Cat type thinking) or are bikes very different and if you add 20 you really are adding 20 solid hp to the rear wheels.:)

Well they are the same basic technology so there will be a difference in HP gain measured at the flywheel, and what you see at the rear wheel.

I do not know if there is some 'standard' or 'fudge' factor for any given drivetrain (belt/chain/driveshaft) and the mass of everything post flywheel. But it is reasonable to expect some decrease in what you had as a gain at the flywheel.

As to the question of 'feel' that is prob more related to the percentage of HP gain vs. total HP.

Add 20 HP to a 700 HP supercar and you have increased the HP about 3%. An F1 driver could most likely feel the difference, but i doubt i could.

Add that 20 HP to a 50 HP motorcycle...now you are talking about a 40% increase...you will sure as hell feel that :)

On a related note, i would be very wary of claimed increases of that magnitude, unless you are going for the whole smash....high compression pistons, tall and long cam, ported heads etc. Someone here (Richard1??) did that mod and i believe he wound up with something like a 16 HP increase if i am remembering correctly.

Another factor to consider...the driveline (clutch/pressure plates, gears, u-joints etc) was designed for the stock output. If you add 40% more HP to the motor, you might start breaking things.

Isn't this basically what Jimmy Farris did to his bike? Higher compression pistons and new cams.

as for 20hp, lets say you get the same output as J.F. at around 72hp. you just went from .084hp per lb to .109hp per lb. In a 3200lb car that would equate to a 100hp increase.

That is what he did and gained 16hp on the dyno.
It is all here.

New pistons and cams only added 8 or 9 more horse power and everything else also added 8 or 9 horse power.
SO just the bore kit... not 20. only 9 at best.

Don't quote me but i think he put in a different fuel controller after this and squeezed a little more out of her?? 1 horse?

Hi ya'll

Jimmy did that mod, and YES you can feel the power in your butt (I know that sounds weird).

Total HP increase over stock was 16. That included AFT kit, Power Commander V -- professionally tuned on a dyno, K&N Air Intake, Cobra Swepts (no baffles) When I first contacted AFT, Jim (the owner) told me the piston/cam mod is an almost 11 HP increase, and I agree with that 100%.

I truly feel the HP while rolling on the throttle, though. I'm very happy with the performance now, and still getting 50 MPG

I'm still jealous!

If stock Fury H.P. is 56, then Jimmy got a 28.6% increase (72-56=16 & 16/56x100=28.6%). That is a very significant increase in power, especially on a relatively light-weight system like the Fury. Compared to stock, the acceleration has to be eye-popping; not sport-bike eye-popping, but chopper eye-popping. Wish I had it.

Cheers

You can pick up the kit from AFT customs for around a thousand bux. You have send in your cam so they can have it grinded. Yes your using the same cams their just changing the profile on the lobe, delaying time in takes intake and exhaust valves to close in order create more power. It's about another grand to have it installed, takes about 12 hrs. Side note; the does not come with a stronger valve spring, you should also replace the springs. I've seen Dyno read out before and after the mod, on the low end you triple power output and double the torque.
WELL WORTH THE MONEY!!!
