Honda did the first oil change at 600 miles. They used their oil, which is perhaps best during the break in period.

At 8,000 miles I started changing the oil myself. I will use full synthetic 10W40 from now on (coming up on the 16,000 mile service) with a good quality filter (K&N).

Use the correct oil for your climate and change it regularly, in Australia Honda says every 6000 Kilometres or 3700 Miles. I only use mineral motorcycle oil and because our summers are really hot in Sydney I use 10W40 or 15W40 in summer and if my local auto parts place are out of 10W40 then I get 10W30 in winter. I also change my oil every 3000 Kilometres which on the Fury is probably at bit of over kill but my wife's bike is air cooled and it needs to be done at 3000 K so I do them both at the same time. I also spend way to much time in rush hour traffic with stop - go riding in 30 + deg C heat, so that reduces the oil life somewhat.

I do the same. I ride a lot in the mtns. Takes about 10 mins.

I use 5W40 synthetic oil in conjunction with oil analysis. FWIW..............

5W40 is that a "motorcycle" oil? Who makes it? I don't recall seeing a 5W40 in Sydney although I did see a 10W50 synthetic "motorcycle" oil at one time.

 

I switched to Shell Rotella T-6 synthetic on my last Change. 4500 mi. The bike will run cooler.

 

What oil filter are you running with that?
